Year 10 visit Manchester United Football Club
On Tuesday 19 September the Year 10 class visited Manchester United Football Club at Old Trafford to get an overview of how businesses operate. The pupils had a question and answer session with one of the education officers there and then were given a guided tour of the stadium. Highlights of the trip included the players changing rooms where each player has a set seat and the pupils were able to sit where their favourite player does, the press room where the reporters meet with the away managers after the game and running down the tunnel to the pitch to the sounds of fans cheering as the teams were announced! It is fair to say that all pupils had a fantastic day, unfortunately there were no players at Old Trafford that day for them to meet.
New Teacher!
After training at All Hallows last year Miss Hussein is now teaching NVQ Career Planning and Preparation for Employment and a business module to Year 9 pupil through PSHE.
More pupils than ever studying Applied Business!
The uptake of Applied Business this year is the highest ever. This has been achieved by raising the profile of business in the school through enterprise activities as well as speaking to pupils to find out the kind of businesses they are interested in studying and arranging visits to those organisations or for guest speakers from the company to come in to school.
Vocational Courses
NVQ Level 1 Preparation for Employment & NVQ Level 1 in Career Planning are delivered to all Year 10 and 11 pupils that study vocational courses such as Hair & Beauty, Construction or Childcare. These courses involve the pupils focussing on their chosen industry and visits and guest speakers from businesses such as Toni & Guy, ROC Construction and Holyrood Nurseries.
Chester Zoo
On Tuesday 7 November Year 10 and 11 Applied Business pupils will visit Chester Zoo. They will be given a talk on the business of the zoo and then spend time interviewing staff of the zoo and assessing risks that they face in their day to day work. This will be used to evaluate how effectively the zoo protect their staff. The research carried out will form the basis of coursework for both year groups.
Passed!
Once again all Year 11 pupils who studied GCSE Applied Business Studies passed the course!
