All Action !
Welcome to the fourth annual edition
of All Action. Congratulations to the GCSE class of 2006 on their excellent PE results.
44% of pupils gained the top grades, with a 100% pass rate for the fourth year in
a row. Special credit to Daniel Bland and Ashley Cini for achieving ‘A’ grade passes.
This year also sees the second year of the First in Sport BTEC with 40 pupils now
on the course leading to the equivalent of 4 good GCSE passes. Our Sports Co-ordinator
Mr Carden continues to provide a range of activities and events for pupils at our
feeder primaries, and also helped secure the new mini-bus provided by sponsors Capio
Oaklands Hospital. We look forward to another exciting year and wish to welcome
Mr McKeown and Miss Hussein to the department. Mr Tomlinson, Head of PE
Done it!
All Hallows pupils are always willing
to support a good cause, and the PE department helped them run a combined 500 miles
in aid of ‘Sport Relief’ in July. Every pupil ran a mile each to help raise funds
wearing their red sock ‘Doing it!’. On completion, the matching sock stated ’Done
it!’. Over £600 was raised for charity.
Triathlon
Congratulations to our Triathlon team
who won the first ever Salford Community Leisure Ltd Schools competition. A fantastic
all-round team effort secured victory on one of the hottest days of the year, with
Jay Lynch also carrying off the boys individual prize. The event consisted of a
75 metre swim, a two kilometre cycle followed by a 500 metre run. To complete the
course in a combined time of just 90 minutes was outstanding.
Extending opportunities
Extending opportunities
for pupils has always been a key aim of the PE department. Spinning Classes and
Water Polo are just two of the new activities planned for this year, but the most
popular ‘new’ out of school hours activity from last year was Kayaking. Here Year
11 pupils Peter Monaghan and Martyn Hogan show their skills in a session at Pendleton
College Pool.
The Manchester FA Sports Partnership event
Chelsea Meaney and
Andrew Walsh reluctantly pose for the camera whilst officiating at The Manchester
FA Sports Partnership event. Not only are they working towards Sports Leader Awards,
but they are also members of the Junior Sports Council providing a voice for pupils
on sporting matters. They have successfully gained a share of a £3,200 grant to
use within school.
Score 24
The Score 24 event at Salford Sports
Village proved a huge success. Captains Becky and Abbie shake hands before one of
the matches.
Becoming involved
The PE department are looking forward to pupils becoming involved in the various
team sports again this year. Strong traditions in Rugby, Football and Netball have
been enhanced by opportunities in Rowing, Swimming and Basketball recently. Pupils
can also improve their talents in the Multi-Skills Academy or even test their management
skills in The Schools Fantasy Football League.
